about Brother Oscar Neely

Brother Neely works as a RESEA analyst, overseeing six counties in South Carolina for the Department of Employment and Workforce in Greenwood, SC. Before taking this position, Brother Neely served as Out of School Coordinator for SC Jobs for America’s Graduates Program and as a Global Career Development Facilitator. He has been a coach in Greenville County Schools for 43 years and holds the record for the most wins of any boys’ coach in the history of Mauldin High School over an 8-year span. Brother Neely was named Coach of the Year in 1990 at Pendleton High School, where his team was the Regional Champion. He was also Track Coach of the Year at JL Mann in 1993, and Basketball Coach of the Year in 1995, the same year his team won the Regional and County Championship. At Woodmont High School, Brother Neely was recognized as the Basketball Coach of the Year. 1997, and his team also won the Regional Championship, among other accolades. He graduated from Mauldin High School in 1977 and Claflin University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Brother Neely selflessly devotes himself as a community volunteer. He is active both in the Church and the community. At church, he is the Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, former President of the Brotherhood Ministry, Superintendent of Sunday School, and a Sunday School Teacher. In the community, he has been the Local Director of the Kevin Garnett, Greg Buckner, Josh Buckner, Josh Howard, and Trevor Booker NBA Basketball Camp since 1998. Brother Neely has served on the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, the Greenville County Neighborhood Accountability Board, and the Fountain Inn Community of Concerned Citizens Board. As a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he has been Chairman of the Southeastern Province Guide Right Program for 16 years, Vice Chairman of the National Guide Right Commission for 18 years, and also served as Commission Chaplain. He has been the Guide Right Director for the Greenville Alumni chapter, served on the Board of Directors, and held the positions of Past Polemarch and Vice Polemarch. Since 2022, he has been the Senior Southeastern Province Vice Polemarch and holds the Chaplain position on the Council of Senior Vice Polemarch.

Brother Neely is a member and Chaplain of the Claflin University Upstate Alumni Chapter, and President of the Peg Leg Bates Foundation. Among his many awards, he has made a significant impact on the lives of many young athletes in the area, including NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. Brother Neely was honored with the MLK Legacy Community Award 2025, Jobs for America’s Graduates Specialist of the Year 2016, Greenville Alumni Achievement Award, and Kappa Man of the Year for the fifth time in 2022.
